Appalachian Trail Hike : Erin Moore came over from NYC so we could hike the Appalachian Trail(AT). We were looking for a specific trailhead, but couldn't find it even with our fine GPS equipment. We did however find the AT, so we started walking along. After 5 miles along the trail when we had to turn around to make it back before dark we came across the trail head! At least now we know where it is. We still had a fantastic time. Erin is such good company and we talked about all the places in the world we want to explore. Another warmup for K2 base camp.

Visiting Bisma and Aamara - Aug 09 : Bisma was about to head back to London and invited us over to Aamara's house. t was a a great drive during the day. We had a lot of fun with a vinegar/baking soda rocket, an amazing barbecue and iftar by Bisma and Imran, conversation with the family and finally some rockband where Elyse ruled the drums.

I had to spend a lot of time at work but we still managed to have a whole lot of fun. Zaby also added a new dimension of video to our album. Quite an impressive job for his first try.

Anisa Recital : Anisa's recital was at Riley theater but I did not have my camera at that time so I asked her to play again so I could record it. She played this at home. The piece is from "The Lord of the Rings" movie soundtrack, and my first attempt at using my new Canon 5d Mark II which can shoot HD video.

Anisa's 12th Birthday : Anisa's Birthday weekend was quite packed with activity. Firstly she had her friends over for the night. There was snow on the ground covered with a layer of ice so everyone was sliding down the driveway. That night we went to see Inkheart at the movie theater. next day was more slipping and sliding on the snow. Then we went and got Anisa some hiking boots and we went on a hike to Riverbend.

Maher's Birthday : Maher's birthday is always an excellent excuse for Amber to get us all together. First there was the kid party at Chucky Cheese where Anisa, Jeff and I also participated in the games and then it was time to go to Amber's house where she had prepared an amazing dinner. Uncle Bobby, Aunty and Harry joined us there, and then Shelley finally arrived from Canada after a long journey (mostly at the airport). Amber cut her birthday cake as well. Afterward we went to Uncle Bobby's house for the night and a traditional breakfast of halwa poori. Most excellent.

Winter at Longwood with Usman : My very dear friend from Aitchison College stopped by to visit with his wife Shahbano. It was snowing and we had heard so much about the lights at Longwood Gardens so we decided to spend the evening there. Next morning was supposed to be rowing but with snow on the ground and 30 mph winds, that was a little crazy..even for me.

Jeff's Graduation : Jeff graduated on 6 June 2008 from MIT with a BS in Aerospace Engineering. It was cool to be on the parent end this time, especially one of such a smart guy. The weather was rainy and cold but it did little to dampen our spirits. Anisa and I went earlier to secure seats. When Linda and her Dad and Christine came, the showers came with them. By the time the graduates arrived, the rain had at least stopped. It was cool to hear so many languages spoken around us, french, chinese, urdu and ukrainian. The bengali nobel prize winner gave a very good address trying to get the graduates to think of social implications.

Girl Scouts at Camp Mosey Wood : Anisa and her Girl Scout Troop went to Camp Mosey Woods in the Poconos for two days. They did archery, rowing, arts and craft and a bonfire. Karen Fortune, the troop leader, got everything arranged and with two other parents (Kathy Douglas and I), we set off with six girls. We had Michelle join us the next day with two more girls. The Camp was awesome with tents set up on a fantastic wooden deck. There was even a shower house with all the amenities, bonfire pits, a dining hall and a lake. The weather could have been a little better in evenings when it invariably rained and the temperature was bone chilling, but we it kept the bugs away. It was totally fun!

On the way we stopped in New York City and saw Erin Moore and the gallery where she works in NYC. They it was a short walk to see my brother Timmy(Amer)in his office in the garment district. We then left for Boston, where we spent the next few days. Linda's dad and Christine drove from Michigan so it was a pretty fun few days spent in watching rowing, going to the Aquarium, visiting Salem and having great food.

Anisa's Recital and Shadow's Playdate with Molly : Anisa performed in the Shipley theater as part of the private recitals for Shipley students. She played a duet with her friend Annie and then several pieces on her own. Portions of the recital are in the clip posted on this page. Her Grandad had come from Michigan for her recital so it was very special. Her Auntie Saadia had sent a dress for her to wear which turned out to be perfect. After the recital it was time for Shadow to play with our neighbours goldern retriever, Molly. The two are best buddies and romp all over the yard.

Kate Boudreau was in town as well and spent the whole day out there. The bangles that Dadijan ad sent from Pakistan were a huge hit and the table was always crowded. We also had jalebis, mango lassi and snack mix. The girls wore pakistani clothes, some Linda's and some Anisa's. My friend Arshad and his wife Ambreen came over for dinner with their kids. The puppy was happy to get so much attention, and Saadia was happy to get so much shopping done. The Penitentiary Tour : Jennifer and John came to visit a few weekends ago. It is really tough find a good museum for Jennifer, since it has to meet the criteria of being off the beaten track. So we finally decided to see the Eastern State Penitentiary. It was a jail built in the 1830's as an alternative to the overcrowded rowdy jails of those days. The Quakers thought putting the convicts in solitary confinement with no human contact would make them reflect on the mistakes they had made. It turned out it also drove people mad, so it was converted to a normal jail in the 1900's and closed in 1970's. Linda's Dad was also in town and came along. A very fascinating place.

The New Puppy : We picked up our puppy on Friday night after driving to the breeder who lives 2 hours away. We thought he was going to be liver colored, but it turned out we got the black one. Anisa wanted him anyway, so we signed the paper and drove back through driving rain. The puppy, who does not have a name yet, cried a little but Anisa sang to him and that kept him quiet. She took him out in the middle of the night to pee outside and he seems to be doing very well with his potty training. He got introduced to the cat, Jessie, whose fur was standing on end, and our neighbours puppy, Molly. I also added the pictures we took when we went to see Jeff race in the Princeton Chase.

The First Step towards Getting a Puppy : Anisa and LInda had done their homework. It seems the next dog had to be, and only could be a Flat Coated Retriever. They come in Black or Liver and are supposed to be very intelligent and loyal. We went to see two breeders that are about two hours from Philadelphia. Anisa's friend Zoe came with us. The first breeder did not have any puppies yet but we got to see his grown up dogs who were very playful. Then we went to see the second breeder who had a liver male pup and two black pups.
